Shorts Brews from Bellaire

Shorts Brewing has a dedicated, loyal following in Michigan, pushing outwards toward the Midwest and beyond. Who hasn't heard of the "Locals Light," "Soft Parade" or "Huma Lupa Licious?" It's on tap at almost every bar and every restaurant; go-to beer with such variety, it fits the palate of just about anyone.

One of the many things that makes Shorts so special is that even though they are such a large brewer, they still operate like a "mom and pop shop." They pride themselves on "the energy we put into the quality of our beer, food, staff, customers and facilities. We still brew our beer the same way we always have and we always will," Shorts says.

Shorts Brewing Company donated 3 cases of bottled beer, and their hard cider company Star Cut Cider, donated 1 case of hard cider for our giveaway couple.

Recently, Maire and Stacy journeyed up to Bellaire to meet with Emily Torrence from Shorts to sample and select the beers that Maire and Tyler will be able to offer guests at their wedding, and received much more than they were anticipating.

"When Stacy and I visited Bellaire for a tasting at Short's Brewing Company, I don't think we were expecting to gain so much knowledge about beer and the history of the brewery," Maire said, "Emily from Short's has so much passion for the brewing process, the story of each brew, and simply the beer itself. She told us the story behind beer names, the establishment, and the history of the popular India Pale Ale. I am not much of a beer person but Emily did a great job of converting me."

"While at Short's we tasted a flight of completely different yet very tasty beers," she said, "What I loved about each beer was that when Emily told me that it was brewed with fruit, chocolate, or whatever it may be, the taste came through clear as day!"

With so many unique options, it's hard to even imagine narrowing the selection down to just three varieties, and gave Maire quite a hard time. Do you pick the wild and unexpected flavors your guests may not have had before? Or, do you select the tried and true - ensuring that there will be something for everyone?

"The choice to narrow down three varieties of beer was a tricky one. After talking with Emily about her own experiences with the beer and their popularities at weddings, I decided to choose three pretty common and sure to please beers: Locals Light, Soft Parade, and Bellaire Brown," Maire said. "I have told a few people the beer selection we will have at the wedding. To say that they respond positively is an understatement."

Maire and Stacy's visit had them wanting to come back again and again. And who wouldn't?

Maire said: "Short's is such a popular brewery that it is a favorite by many. If you haven't visited the pub in Bellaire, I highly recommend it. Not only do they serve unique brews, they serve some of the best food in Northern Michigan!"

Emily also had some advice for our giveaway couple, and for anyone planning their wedding! She says, "Slow down and enjoy the process. It's an adventure for sure, but take time to enjoy and appreciate each step!"

If you're curious about the options available, or what selection of beers will best fit your wedding crowd, be sure to seek out Emily's advice!
